Some people have been asking me what is a Benedictine Oblate.
A Benedictine Oblate is a layperson or Cleric — not a monk or nun — who makes a formal commitment to live by the spirit of St. Benedict’s Rule in their everyday life. They’re affiliated with a specific monastery, participate in its prayer life and community as they’re able, and bring Benedictine values like ora et labora (“pray and work”), stability, and hospitality into ordinary secular life. Think of it as a serious, structured spiritual commitment without leaving the world.
